Cool Houses Austin » Cactus Cafe http://coolhousesaustin.com Real Estate and Austin Events Sun, 21 Mar 2010 15:30:03 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.2 en hourly 1 Cactus Cafe Austin, Tx. http://coolhousesaustin.com/2009/02/cactus-cafe-austin-tx/ http://coolhousesaustin.com/2009/02/cactus-cafe-austin-tx/#comments Sun, 15 Feb 2009 18:58:15 +0000 admin http://coolhousesaustin.com/?p=269 The Cactus Cafe located in the student union at the University of Texas is a sparkling diamond in Austin’s crown as the “Live Music Capital of the World”!  This month, the Cactus is celebrating its 30th Anniversary!   If you haven’t been there yet, you are missing out on a venue which feels more like a comfortable living room than a nightclub.  What a treat it was on Feb 13  to catch Alejandro Escovedo at the Cactus!  Alejandro and his incredibly talented guitarist David Pelkingham  put on a show that left all of us wanting more, more, more….Now I have seen Escovedo many many times but even I didn’t know the background of all of his songs.  In the intimate setting of the Cactus, he was able to tell the story behind the lyrics of each of the songs before he and Pelkingham played out their perfect renditions….At one point, they left the stage and came down the aisle where both musicians proceeded to weave a spell of such incredible perfection and  mastery on their  guitars that the audience hardly dare breathe… It was pure magic!  Only a small venue like the Cactus would have made that magic possible.  So if you are ever in Austin, do yourself a huge favor and go see your favorite musician or maybe discover a new one at the incomparable Cactus Cafe!  By the way, you will find us there next Friday night for Chris Smithers!
