Great housing news for Texas again! In an article from Forbes.com. July 22, 2008, Best Cities to Buy A Home, Houston was named No. 1 in the whole country as the Best City! The reasons given for the pick over San Francisco and Charlotte, is in the title, “Houston, we don’t have a housing problem“. It goes on to give accolades for our median priced homes, $152,500 and that price is UP (yes, contrary to the rest of the country) Houston homes sales are up a nice 6.6% from 2005. It also boasts a low vacancy rate and not surprisingly, an”oil rich economy”. ( You may not like the price at the pump, but hey, there are some benefits if you live in Houston). They are booming in the building and home industry sectors! As the article continues with the pluses of Houston, “throw in a bubbling entrepreneurial tech scene, and you’ve got the four factors that put Houston on the TOP of our list of best places to buy a home“.

The article goes on to say “Lots to Like In the Lone-Star State” with kuddos to Texas which “dominated our lineup of mortgage-worthy area areas…many large corporations call the Lone Star State home, which creates jobs and tax revenue”. Best of all, our own Austin was named No. 2 and San Antonio No. 5 on this sweet list which shows that housing is continuing to appreciate most significantly in Central Texas. Dallas also made the list coming in at No. 6! And we are talking nationwide here! Austin boasts a vacancy rate which has fallen by 37.5% in the last 24 months to just 1.5% now despite a lot of building in the past few years. According to the list, an average monthly mortgage payment in Austin is $1,022.40 and average rent $767. Again, according to Forbes, “This state capitol is a hip area on the rise”! I couldn’t agree with this statement more, so if you are looking to buy or sell in Austin or even San Antonio, give me a call for the latest market statistics and a list of some of our best properties for your lifestyle or investment dollars!

Yes, we are very fortunate to have new jobs and a great Texas entrepreneurial environment which keeps our housing markets growing at a nice steady pace…not a boom by any means, but then no “bust”either…
